The search to recover lost gear, scattered as it was by the tornado, takes several days. Upon return to their base camp the second day, our heroes discovered an unusual old man sitting upon a log and conversing intently with Shunkichi, their kami companion. This newcomer, Banlak, was deposited into camp by way of the lamp. Having recently lost his familiar, Sunkichi and Banlak quickly realize the fortuity which the lamp presented them, and later that evening become bonded together, familiar and ward.
Another stroke of fortune came with Banlak, for he wears a ring which the group believe opens a portal to an annex of the impossible palace. Now the group has safety during the hours of darkness, for they can retreat to this palatial and spacious sanctum, safe from the hazards of the wilderness.
Unfortunately, this ring does not protect them during the daylight hours, and on the third day after the tornado, while still awaiting Shikibu’s return, the heroes are attacked by an elite force of Five Storm Ninja, led by an invisible and most competent assassin. Having a wizard in the group makes all the difference, for with one of Banlak’s spells, the foe were devastated and routed at once, and their leader cooked alive.
How could these ninja have known where to find the Wheelbreakers, in the middle of the Forest of Spirits. Perhaps the ghost of Katiyana is in league with the oni. If so, this fearsome alliance could pose a greater threat to the Wheelbreakers.
