12 Shal 1333 YS
I could just kick myself. I was there, in the chamber of the High King of the Free Kingdoms, and I didn’t say one word. Not one! How stupid could I be?
The High King was quite cordial, not at all how I expected him to be. I though he’d be pompous-er, or haughtier. He seemed very concerned for Kumori’s plight, our plight really, and was very helpful to us. He gave us a bag-full of diamonds, and the use of a commissioned boat for a whole month. He gave Kumori a very fancy compass, one with a magic compartment that would transport letters back and forth from Kumori to the King.
It seems the High Council of the Free Kingdoms, a bunch of wizards and the like, all representing each of the separate countries of the kingdoms, are very interested in our mission as well. They want to know if and when we find Kaidan, because I guess they were not able to find it. The King said they searched and searched, crisscrossing the sea where Kaidan should have been, but found nothing. The King thinks the islands sunk under the waters, but Kumori (as well as the council) think the island is trapped on some cursed plane of existence. All I know is that we have to find it, wherever it may be, or we won’t be able to break the curse and set their people free. (Here I go, sounding like a blue-bell again).
The trip to Venchenzia was about the same as the one I experienced from Chuul to Archemaine. My heart leapt into my throat, then it was over. Miles and leagues traveled in the blink of an eye. I am not sure I like this portal travel. I know I never want to get used to it. On top of it all, when we left Alhambra, it was late afternoon. When we got to Venchenzia, the sun had just set. So… if we traveled in the blink of an eye, why is it that it was later in the Realm of the East? I feel like what my friends have been describing as Lamp Lag. When some of them get sucked into the lamp, time passes differently in there. Izzy, for instance, was gone from us only a few minutes, but a whole day passed inside the lamp.
Also, we discovered a young woman that Dorak and Izzy knew from Midrealm. She was 14 when they saw her last, a year ago. But she is now in her twenties, and had a terrible time, after being taken by the lamp. She got sent back in time, and was too far away to get to her home to save them from being slaughtered by a petty usurper who wanted their lands. She went through so very much, poor girl. I want to help her, but I sure don’t know what I can do. I think its up to Dorak to set things right for her, if he can, that is.
We went shopping, and this town is really strange. Instead of streets, they have little rivers. They call them canals. Instead of coaches, you hire little boats called adels. There are rumored to be monsters in the waters, and nobody goes outside at night. I heard the most dreadful noises from my window during the nights. Goodness it was frightful. Oh, and this place reeks. The waters are filled with sewage and algae and who knows what other diseases. I cannot wait to get out of here. It is a dreadful place, and one I would never wish you to experience.
All my love,
