TERROR ON THE WALLS
It was a swift battle, that with the Obake and a pair of hulking Mungese giants. The enemy proves themselves no match against the heroes, despite the absence of their leader Kumori, taken inexplicably by the cursed lamp.
Woe to the foes, for when the mists of battle cleared, not one of them were left breathing. Wikkit saw to it himself. If they remained breathing, he stopped it with a dagger thrust in the heart.
All of the walls, they discover, are decorated with an excess of grim and disgusting art – all in dedication to the great oni, Munasukaru it seems. Before the group can safely pass beyond this terrible section of the complex, Otos is beset upon by yet another haunting spirit. This particular spirit was one of the recent torture victims, and slips inside of the great Ionian sailor before his comrades can dispatch it.
Luckily, this victim-spirit is benign, and merely wishes the destruction of the oni that killed her. Buto Futotsu, the Swine Shogun, The Soul of Unending Misery, has knowledge of the layout of the lair, known as Munasukaru’s Penance. She promises aid whenever possible, as long as the foul oni is sought out and destroyed.
Continuing deeper into the Penance, our party comes upon another great cavernous space – this place houses a great number of the Obake, their females and offspring. Several waves of these pathetic creatures die painfully before they wise up and run off, presumably to warn their leadership.
Luckily, the leader of this area, Buto Futotsu, the Swine Shogun, was already dispatched by the Wheel-Breakers when he raided their camp the previous night. Instead, the heroes found Buto’s keep defended only by a small league of Obake and giants, most of whom were promptly slain.
Several of the Obake managed to cross a small bridge, leading to an underground pagoda shrine to Munasukaru (according to Otos’ new spirit companion). The heroes face yet another long decent before they reach the pagoda shrine, and they prepare themselves for the coming battle, fully aware that the enemy is now themselves preparing for their arrival.
Will Kumori return from the accursed lamp and be present for the next series of battles, or will the Wheel-Breakers have to go on yet again without their leader? What is waiting for them in this pagoda shrine and beyond is yet to be seen…
