WATER ELEMENTAL ATTACK
A crooked pagoda, twisted as if in mockery of the pagoda in daylight high above, stood seemingly impenetrable across a rushing underground river. More Obake servants fired deadly arrows as the heroes attempted to bypass or lower the drawbridge which was the only passage across the treacherous waters.
Wikkit brought the bridge down with another judicious use of one of his stones, and the party fought well to breach the sealed doors behind the lowered bridge. In all, the battle was unremarkable – that was until two huge water creatures, elementals, burst forth from the underground river. These vile servants of Munasukaru proved a deadly challenge for the wheel breakers, and claimed the life of one of their valued henchmen, Kwok Wen, who was grabbed and drowned by one of the watery monsters, his body never recovered as it was swept away by the currents.
The Obake, once their elemental allies had been dispatched, proved little challenge, and the pagoda was readily taken. Inside our heroes discovered a vile shrine to Munasukaru, complete with grisly tribute to the Oni – sacrificed creatures, as well as valuables. Our heroes chose to leave the valuables, for fear of invoking the Oni’s wrath.
“We can come back and loot the shrine once we’ve dealt with the Oni,” said Otos.
After the pagoda was cleared, the heroes took a much needed recuperation, and even though they took the precaution of barring themselves inside a storeroom for protection, the night passed peacefully and left them unmolested.
When will Kumori return from the accursed lamp? What horrors await our heroes past this terrible Pagoda?
