THE NAGA MEI
The long stair lead to a flooded cavern devoted to anguish and madness. Rusted iron cages hung from stone pillars and screams of pain and anguish echoed throughout the chamber. It was here that the heroes met yet two more Spawn of Munasukary, angry pattens of scars tracing their hideous, otherworldly faces. The fight was brief, but violent. One of the oni, unfortunately, fled to warn whoever was waiting in the next flooded chamber.
Pressing on while they had the advantage, the heroes dropped into a flooded chamber, waist-high with filth. The contaminated waters flooding the cavern lapped against natural stone walls and pillars, every inch of which were covered with dreadful carvings and hung with burnt and mummified aranea, hobgoblin, and human corpses. Along with the cowardly oni who’d fled the Hall of Screams, the party was attacked by two dreaded Naga, beloved daughters of the Oni Munasukaru.
The waters were a perfect place for the sisters, who easily maneuvered under the surface, only to pop up and fling their awful fireballs, to vicious effect. These were challenging opponents, to be sure, but when the smoke cleared, the tally of the dead was oni: 3, wheelbreakers: 0.
The disgusting waters trickled over a ridge, a damn of sorts, past which led to a dark tunnel – a shaft which led straight down into darkness. A sinister clanking of chains, with an odd scraping sound emanated from below. The heroes prepare for decent.
What could be lurking below. Do the sounds of chains represent more of Munasukaru’s victims? And how will the Oni leader, abandoned to this prison by her former Oni companions, feel about the deaths of her offspring spawn, and her two beloved daughters?
