Decending a spiral stair proved daunting, for not only was the entire length surrounded by a vortex of water spilling from the flows above, but there were more guardians along the path – several Obake Sisters of the Broken path, as well as Fujai, one of Munasukaru’s chosen, a dreaded Oni Ogre Mage Samurai. Even though these guardians were swiftly defeated, the battle took its toll as several members of the group were knocked off the stair and swept away to the depths below.
Luckily the terminus of the descent was an underground Lake of Broken Stones, which would have been easier to traverse had the waters not been infested by terrible and vicious giant gar. But these powerful fish were not the only guardians. Waiting across the lake were three more of the Obake sisters, monks who easily leapt from jagged island to jagged island, pouncing on our heroes and knocking them back into the water as they struggled to save their comrades from the giant fish.
Waiting in the next series of buildings, now mostly in ruin, were various guards and guardians. More giants, more Obake warriors, an yet another Oni samurai. They all fell swiftly to blades and arrows, yet as the heroes swept past room after room, exhaustion set in. Ultimately, the heroes cleared this level, with a final battle agains four, terrible beasts called Destrachans. These creatures delighted in causing pain and fear, splitting up their opponents, stunning them with their painful harmonics attacks, and also by collapsing the fragile ceiling. It was a tough fight, but they managed to come out of it mostly unscathed. Finally, the team was afforded a period of well-earned rest.
What? Another descent? More water rushing past into yet another drain? Will these trials never end?
