Hero Token Uses

Golden Doubloon Uses

Acumen

If used before a roll is made, grants you a +8 luck bonus to any one d20 roll.

You can use a hero token to grant this bonus to another character, as long as you are in the same location and your character can reasonably affect the outcome of the roll (such as distracting a monster, shouting words of encouragement, or otherwise aiding another with the check). A Hero token spent to aid another character grants only a +4 bonus. If the granting character also uses the Aid Another action as part of their turn, this bonus stacks (to +6, and the granting character does not need to roll to assist, it is heroically automatic).

Arcane Recollection

Use a token and name a spell you’ve cast. After a number of rounds equal to the spell’s level minus 1, minimum one, you regain that spell. Arcane Recollection does not require concentration, but it can be detected with a Spellcraft check.

Cheat Death

A character can spend 2 hero tokens to cheat death. How this plays out is up to the GM, but generally the character is left alive, with negative hit points but stable. For example, a character is about to be slain by a critical hit from an arrow. If the character spends 2 hero tokens, the GM decides that the arrow pierced the character’s holy symbol, reducing the damage enough to prevent him from being killed, and that he made his stabilization roll at the end of his turn. Cheating death is the only way for a character to spend more than 1 hero token in a turn. The character can spend hero tokens in this way to prevent the death of a familiar, animal companion, eidolon, or special mount, but not another character or NPC.

Delayed Acumen

If used after a roll is made, a hero token used grants you a +4 luck bonus to any one d20 roll.

You cannot use hero tokens to grant this bonus to another character.

Desperate Prayer

Use a token before casting a healing spell. Instead of rolling, you automatically grant the maximum healing allowed by the spell. Excess hit points remain as temporary hit points for a number of rounds equal to half your level.

Extra Action

You can spend a hero token on your turn to gain an additional standard or move action this turn.

Fortune

You can use a hero tokens to immediately reroll any d20 roll. You may take the most desirable result of the either roll, however any results of a natural one will never be a critical failure.

Inspiration

If you feel stuck at one point in the adventure, you can petition the DM for a hint about what to do next. Depending on the petition, the DM will assign the number of tokens to be spent for this inspiration. If multiple tokens are required, the cost may be met by expenditures form multiple characters. If the DM feels that there is no information to be gained, no tokens are spent.

Make a Friend

Use a token to declare that an intelligent NPC who is not immediately hostile is actually your friend (or relative, or business partner, etc.) This does not mean that they must immediately do what you say, but it certainly doesn’t hurt! Some powerful NPCs may be resistant to this ability, for the sake of game balance, but one way or another it will always benefit you to use it in a situation.

Resilient

You can use a hero token to immediately stabilize from dying. Further damage after you stabilize may cause you to continue making stabilization rolls.

Swift Acting

You can use a hero token to take your turn immediately. Treat this as a readied action, moving your initiative to just before the currently acting creature. You may only take a move or a standard action on this turn.

Red Doubloon Uses

Delayed Heroics

You may spend your Red Doubloon token, which may duplicate any one Golden Doubloon use. The DM will then draw a doubloon from the bag for use by the NPCs, and will draw a Golden Doubloon for you to use. If a Blue Doubloon is spent in this way, the DM does not draw for the NPCs, but still hands you a Golden Doubloon.

Heroic

You may spend your Red Doubloon token and duplicate any Golden Doubloon use. The DM does not draw a doubloon from the bag for the NPCs.

Incredible Accumen

If used before a roll is made, grants you a +12 luck bonus to any one d20 roll. The DM draws a doubloon token from the bag for the NPCs to use.

You can use a Red Doubloon hero token to grant this bonus to another character, as long as you are in the same location and your character can reasonably affect the outcome of the roll (such as distracting a monster, shouting words of encouragement, or otherwise aiding another with the check). A Hero token spent to aid another character grants only a +6 bonus. If the granting character also uses the Aid Another action as part of their turn, this bonus stacks (to +8, and the granting character does not need to roll to assist, it is heroically automatic).

Incredible Heroism

You can use a Red Doubloon hero token to immediately reroll any d20 roll. Additionally, you may add a bonus of +4 to either of these rolls. You may take the most desirable result of the either roll, and any results of a natural one will never result in a critical failure. The DM draws a doubloon token from the bag for the NPCs to use.

Devastating Attack

You may spend a Red Doubloon to automatically confirm a critical threat, without need for a confirmation roll. The DM draws a doubloon token from the bag for the NPCs to use.

Shrug It Off

You may spend a Red Doubloon to automatically ignore the damage from any source, as long as the damage is not dealt by a critical hit. This applies only to hit point damage (not ability score damage, massive damage, etc). The DM draws a doubloon token from the bag for the NPCs to use.

Tenacity

You may spend a Red Doubloon token after you have determined the effects of a critical failure. You may ignore the results of that failure. The DM draws a doubloon token from the bag for the NPCs to use.

That Was Close

You may spend a Red Doubloon token after the effects of a critical hit against you have been determined. You may ignore the side-effect results of that critical, but not the hit point damage. The DM draws a doubloon token from the bag for the NPCs to use.
